The South Rim is owned and operated by the National Park Service and is the most developed region of the Grand Canyon, with nearly two dozen viewpoints to explore, including iconic views like Mather Point, Mohave Point, and Desert View.
Visitors to the South Rim can explore the Grand Canyon Village and visit historic landmarks like the Kolb Studio and Bright Angel Lodge or participate in guided Ranger programs. The South Rim also offers the widest selection of amenities, including numerous restaurants, hiking trails, gift shops, hotels, and more.
With over 5 million visitors per year, the South Rim is the most popular region of the Grand Canyon. If you’ve never visited the Grand Canyon before, the South Rim is often considered the best place to start. Choose from a variety of South Rim tours, including bus, helicopter, and airplane tours. Some guided tours include narrated airplane or helicopter flights over the Grand Canyon, complete with breathtaking aerial views of the Grand Canyon's North and East Rims.
The Grand Canyon's South Rim is located about 5 hours east of Las Vegas. Day trips to the South Rim can take up to 18 hours door to door. For a shorter tour that's closer to Las Vegas (with views that are just as impressive), consider visiting the West Rim.
